Rules and regulations of the 6th Championship of the Czech Republic in the Knowledge of the Bible

Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

Come and measure your knowledge of the Old and New Testament and help to turn the attention of your surroudings to the Book of books. Together we can contribute to bringing the Bible back to the center of attention of the nation and nations.

The Championship of the Czech Republic is a competition of teams consisting of 4 members. If you cannot form a team while getting ready for the Championship, you can make it right before the beginning. Due to the size of the hall, the maximum number of teams is 20.

As a part of the preparation we recommend making local contests both within your churches and parishes and with other churches and teams.

The Championship can be attended by anyone who has reached the age of 16 in the year of the Championship.

The theme of the Championship is going to involve questions from the Old and New Testament.

Date and place of the Championship

The Championship will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Conference Hall of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.

The building of the Senate can be entered from the Valdštejnská Street near the Malostranská subway station.

  • The check-in of competitors starts from 8:30 a.m.; the Championship itself starts at 9:30 a.m.
  • A break is scheduled from 12 to 2 p.m.
  • The expected end is around 5 p.m.

Four-member teams can send their applications by August 15, 2008 at the latest to the below address:

Each application has to contain the following information:

  • Names of competitors
  • Highlighted name of the team leader
  • Name of the church or parish
  • Contact address, e-mail and phone of team leader

Course and social setting of the Championship

The first round taking place in the Conference hall of the Senate will be in writing. Attendants will receive envelopes with 100 questions. For each of the questions there will be 5 possible answers with only one answer being correct. The task of the competitors will be to check the right answers.

Each member of the team competes alone, without aids. Each right answer will score one point. The standings of the teams will be determined by adding up the scores of all of their members. The best three teams will go to the finals. The questions in the finals are oral; the whole team can cooperate to answer.

The Championship will be followed by a gathering, which will be taking place under the name of "Joy from the Bible" in the premises adjacent to the Senate in the afternoon. Besides the traditional ceremony linked with the presentation of prizes to the winning teams, there will also be a cultural performance, praise, worship and dance.

An exhibition of the charitable corporation KKL that has been involved on a long-term basis in forest plantation and in fighting deserts in Israel will be installed in the Senate premises. Furthermore, there will be an interconnected international event "People of the World enscribing the Bible". This will be held in in Prague´s Jerusalem synagog one day later on 14th of September 2008

Prizes for the three winning teams

The first prize for the winning team will be one week trip to Israel. Other prizes will include good books selected by the members of the teams depending on their standings.

The members of the winning teams will receive diplomas. All Championship attendants will receive commemorative plates.

Organizational structure of the Championship of the Czech Republic in the Knowledge of the Bible

The Championship of the Czech Republic in the Knowledge of the Bible is organized by the Czech branch of International Christian Embassy Jerusalem in traditional partnership with Czech Biblical Society and the Czech branch of the Scripture Union incorporated in Steering committee consisting of:

  • Ing. Karel Sedláček, chairman (International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, managing director of the Czech branch)
  • Mgr. Pavel Novák, member (Czech Biblical Society, director)
  • Mgr. Martin Hejl, member (Scripture Union, secretary)

During its meetings the Steering committee discusses the results achieved by the Project team consisting of:

  • Ing. Karel Sedláček, head of the Project team
  • MUDr. Darina Sedláčková, preparation of questions for the Championship
  • Petr Švestka, organizational backup of the Championship
  • Ing. Jiří Niewald PhD, logistic support of the Championship
  • Ing. Radoslav Horák, website and technical support of the Championship
