Come and measure your knowledge of the Old and New Testament and help to turn the attention of your neighbors to the Book of books. Together we can contribute to bringing the Bible back to the center of attention of our nations. The 7th Czech Bible Championship Open is organized by the Czech branch of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) with our traditional partners - the Czech Bible Society and the Czech branch of the Scripture Union. The Championship will be based upon questions from the Old and New Testament. The venue of the Championship is the Conference Hall and the Knights Hall of the Czech Senate and it is organized under the auspices of Mr. Petr Pithart, Vice-President of the Czech Senate. Each competition team consists of 4 members. Due to the size of the Conference hall of the Czech Senate, the maximum number of teams is 20. As part of the preparation it is recommended to organize local contests both within your churches and parishes and with other churches and teams. Each competition team consists of 4 members. Due to the size of the Conference hall of the Czech Senate, the maximum number of teams is 20.The Championship can be attended by any participant who has reached the age of 16 in the year of the Championship. The Championship is international. Foreign teams and/or observers are welcome. Czech and foreign teams do not pay any fee for their participation in the Championship. Organizers do not cover any expenses of the participants. Questions will be in national language/s of the participating teams. The Steering Committee will have English NIV translation of all questions and quotations ready for national coordinators during May 2010. In case of participation of foreign team/s the Steering Committee must know who will be the national coordinator/s for the given country by the end of May 2010 at the latest. The main task of the national coordinator will be to secure translation of questions from English into local language. Translation/s of all questions and quotations into local language/s will have to be returned to the Steering Committee in Prague by the end of August 2010 at the latest. At the same time the final list/s of team members from abroad must be submitted to the Steering Committee.
Date and place of the ChampionshipThe Championship will take place on 9th of October 2010 at the Conference Hall of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The check-in of participants starts from 8:30 a.m.; the Championship - its written part - starts at 9:30 a.m. A break is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. As from 2 p.m. starts the final part of the Championship which will be held in the Knights hall of the Czech Senate – the most beautiful hall of the Senate. Together with official finals there will be also musical and dancing performances. The whole championship will be covered by the media and thus its main aim will be fulfilled – to turn the attention of our fellow citizens to the Book of books. The end is expected around 5 p.m. Course and social setting of the ChampionshipThe first round taking place in the Conference hall of the Senate will be in writing. Attendants will receive envelopes with 70 questions. For each of the questions there will be 5 possible answers with only one answer being correct. The task of the competitors will be to check the right answers. Each member of the team competes alone, without aids. Each correct answer will score one point. The ranking of the teams will be determined by adding up the scores of all of their members. The best three teams will go to the finals. The questions in the finals are oral; the whole team can cooperate in answering them. This part of the Championship is rather spectacular: as competitors listen to the verses from the Bible – each read aloud by a well known Czech public person – their task is to find as quickly as possible the location of the quoted verse in a brand new Bible provided to them. Whosoever finds it first they indicate it by a signal with a tambourine, bell or other musical instrument and go to the platform and finish reading of the verse. Should the foreign team/s participate in the finals then verses from the Bible would be projected (not read) at once for all teams in their respective languages. Continuation would then be the same: when the team finds out where the verse is located they will make a signal with the provided musical instrument. There will be at least 5 rounds of quotations from Bible. The team which scores the most points wins the Championship. Prizes for the three winning teamsThe first prize for the winning team will be high quality e-books with biblical software for all members of the winning team. Prizes for the second and third team will include valuable Bible-related books. The members of the winning teams will receive diplomas. All Championship attendants will receive commemorative plates. After the end of the finals there will be an official announcement of the winning team. Music and dance will follow celebrating as we conclude by celebrating “Joy of the Bible”.
